I have a 48 Ford pickup I need to know how to replace the generator with an alternative 6Vpos ground .I see them in different books but they show them for v 8s.I have a flat six(226)'Can this be done? I don't drive the truck much cause the battery will not stay fully charged and sometimes won't start thanks John Lubinski

First, is your generator charging? Is your battery in good condition? Are all the cable connections and ground straps [body to engine] clean and tight and in good condition? If the gen is charging and you have these other problems, switching to an alternator won't help.

John, Clifford has it right, an alternator will not solve problems with a poorly maintained electrical system and may make things worse. Have you had a load test done on your battery to determine if it is still in good condition? If not, that is the place to start. Here is a link to an vendor that claims to have an alternator for your truck. http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/category_149/Alternators-for-Generator-Conversion.htm Tom
