I recently bought a trunk emblem for my 40. It was a Bob Drake and included a rubber gasket. Did the original emblem have a gasket and was it rubber? Thanks!

There's a gasket around the trunk handle base, but I've never seen a gasket around the emblem.

Thanks. It may be a gasket that street rods use.

The 1940 body parts list shows no gasket, only parts listed are the emblem and a special nut. Of course, one for the V8 and another for the Deluxe.

There was NO gasket beneath the trunk emblem.

If you wish to protect the paint, and are not concerned about being "correct", you can fashion a rubber backing for the emblems, etc, by tracing around the emblem on sheet rubber such as inner tube material, and cutting it out. leaving a very small margin. I just did that with a trunk "spear" that had gouged the paint before the panel was refinished.
