What modern automatic transmission fluid should be used in our 1951 Fordomatic? Is Dexron Mercon okay?

Later fordomatics took Type A auto fluid.you would have to check if yours is the same. I know dexron mercon 111 is a replacement for Type A. Check your label for dexron mercon Bill
