Topic: '34 horn button not grounding

carguy    -- 05-04-2014 @ 10:13 AM
My horns were not working with the button but work fine when grounded so I released the bale and removed the wiring and checked for ground between the center contact and ground when the button is pushed. No ground.

So where do I go from here? Remove the horn button and tube? If so how is it removed?

Or there something else I should try first. Thanks.

If you have an ommeter, check the wire that runs through the tube from the wheel to the switch at the bottom of the column by placing the meter between the wire and ground. It isn't unusual to find that the wire has twisted apart from years of being turned by the wheel. The wire can be replaced after the horn button is removed. If the wire doesn't slide down the tube, insert a wire from the bottom as a "puller", attach the new horn wire, and pull it down into place. Unless you have an open car, removing the tube is a tricky job.
