Trying to figure the production date for my 1946 Super Deluxe Sedan Coupe 69A-72B vin 99A835945. I have the original windshield. It has the Ford oval bug.... a "C" on the F side - then a "D" on the d side but NO SECOND LETTER. The passenger side Ford oval bug is readable from the inside not the outside with the same story. I get that, one side etched. I am guessing the first quarter of the year 1946. Any more specific opinions out there? Thanks in advance for any reply Steve W.

Get a copy of the Club's excellent 41-48 book. It will tell you about glass bugs and almost everything else about your car. The bugs were put on the glass as they came down a production line. As there was no way to know where they would be used, some are inside, others out. There was a lag between the manufacture of the glass and the installation, so they are not a fully reliable way to determine when the vehicle came off the assembly line. A more accurate way is to use the serial number on the frame and compare it to the records.

The letters indicate this: The letter left of the Ford in the middle of the oval indicates the month of manufacture beginning with A for January, etc. The C on yours indicates March. On the right of the Ford should be two letters that are read the same way except A is for 1, etc. The D means 4 for forty something. Unfortunately, without the second letter you can't tell which year in the 40's it is. An F for 6 would mean 46, etc. Maybe you already knew all of this but if you didn't now you do. Old Henry (The older I get, the better old looks.)

Not specifically knowledgeable but this link may be helpful. Check the 'Observation Sheet.' I hope it helps. http://www.fordscript.com/carleton_glass/products.html VT/Jeff This message was edited by VT/JeffH on 7-4-13 @ 10:25 PM
