I have following number on our '39 Ford transmission: 18-1516608 (clear as a bell). What does it mean? According to the Van Pelt web site it's a 1935. Does that make sense? Is it any different than a 1939 tranny? "The older I get, the better I was."

Joe, that number is indeed a 1935 number. To confirm, check the part number at the rear under the reverse idler shaft. If 1935-1936, the prefix will be 48. If 1937-1939, the prefix will be 78. This doesn't mean much, as the case is interchangable. Alan
