I am a New member, I have a 1940 v8-60 in a kurtis midget race car having trouble with fuel pump push rod
with Edelbrock manifold. Rod to long/to short?

Welcome Aboard! Most of the Kurtis midget's that I've seen used cowling-mounted hand pressure pumps, so perhaps Vic Sr, (who campaigned his own V8-60 Kurtis) made the stand mount at a different height than a stock manifold, knowing that it wouldn't be used. If you have access to a stock manifold, measure the vertical distance from the pump stand mount to the manifold/block surface and compare with your manifold. You may have to fabricate a custom pushrod if it is a vintage Edelbrock manifold. If you do, use a stock
pushrod bottom, as anything else probably won't survive running on the cam eccentric.

There were two push rod lengths used with the 60HP. The aluminum intake used a 5.625" rod, while the iron manifold calls for a 6.375" rod. They are both part number 52-9400, with the short rod carrying an "A" suffix, the other, "B". If all else, fails, you can use one of the small in-line electric pumps from C&G.

  Thanks,Stroker
Good info. The hand pump on the kurtis is to prime the engine befor starting, when engine starts the fuel pump takes over. I was adding oil and I look down the stand and saw the problem,,end of pump shaft had damage.
Will try your fix,and let you know.

I think i have both lengths of the 60 hp rods. I'll have to shovel my way into the camper as we have 10" of still falling snow here. lol ken ct.
