Mike: the clearance between the piston skirt and the cylinder wall is ideally .003, but not more than .005 as measured by a feeler gage of 1/2 inch width. The ability to fit the pistons is directly dependent upon the amount of taper in the cylinders, so measure at both the top and bottom of the bore. We measure each bore with a long Sunnen gage. If the bores are badly tapered, they usually need to be rebored enough to clean them up. Sometimes honing can restore them to usable condition. Have a good machine shop measure both your pistons and the bores. We redcommend not ordering pistons until the bore size and condition can be determined.
