Our '51 convertible has a six volt coil with a yellow top.

Is that correct ?

If not, would there be points deducted in judging at a Nationals meet for having the wrong coil ?

Grant, If your car is entered in the Concourse Division, the standard deduction for an incorrect coil is 4 points. An additiional point may be deducted based on condition.

  Thanks, Alan.

On page 9 of Chapter 5 (Engine Compartment) the EFV8 Club's restoration guide "The 1949-50-51 Ford Book" says:

COILS

Coils had an internal resistor in the primary so as not to require a ballast resistor. Original coils had black tops.
