What is the best way to remove the top bolt on the overdrive solenoid? Would loosening the transmission cross member lower it enough to access the bolt? Thanks

If your car is a convertible, the extra brace on the cross member may be at fault. If it is bolted, you may be able to remove it. Otherwise, support the transmission/overdive unit with a jack and lower the crossmember enough to get at the bolt, and be able to turn the solenoid to release the plunger from the balk ring in the OD.
