Almost always, a dent leaves a depression from the stretching of the metal. There are two ways to shrink the area. One is to heat small spots near the inside edge of the dent almost cherry red, and work inward, quenching as you go with a wet cloth. If you can fully access the back side of the dent, you can back the area with a dolly, and use a shrinking hammer. This tool has a "waffle" pattern on the head to cause the metal to be pushed together. Both methods take some practice, and may be a job for a good body shop before you make the area impossible to fix.
