Had the speedo repaired and returned for service three times. The odometer checked out. The odometer works but speedo does not. I tried cutting back on the length of the cable at the trans figuring a jam at the needle from being too long. No luck. Any suggestions for any parts needed or tactics I can try? Thx Grump40

if the odometer is working and the speedo is not ,send it back to the repair shop, take the cable out of the speedometer head and watch it as you drive if it turns while driving then you know its the speedometer that is faulty

Three times? Maybe the need to find a new service provider? the guy that does mine does them correctly the first time, every time. Three times is inexcusable.

I agree about finding a different shop. One of the common problems with old speedometers is that the pot metal case is often used as a sort of bearing for the cable connection. When it wears, the magnetic disks that operate the needle fall out of alignment, and while the odometer registers the rest does not work. We happen to use Bob's Speedometer in Michigan because they will provide a reliable estimate of charges, but there are others out there, as well.
