My heater emits heat even with the blower off, the selector in the off position and the Air selector in the vent position. All these controls work as in the manual. Am I right in assuming that in the Off/Vent position the blower should send out cool air? I checked the heat selector adjustment as in the manual, and suspect a failed vacuum switch. As I adjust the selector with the engine running I see practically no movement of the spring as the cam moves all the way up to the stop. I suspect the water valve is not receiving instructions to stop circulating hot water. Also, the water valve is not where the manual says. It is buried inside the heater core assembly. Is this the case with a late production 52?

I guess nobody is interested in heaters in the summer! Thanks anyway, guys.

52: I'm staying close to my "man-cave", which is air-conditioned, as while I should be out in my shop working on my Ford, it's 97 degrees out with very high humidity. I guess if you don't want to dig into the innards of your heater, you could install a manual shut off valve at the head. Hopefully, by keeping this thread alive, there will be someone with late 52 expertise that will chime-in with a "real answer".

I hesitate to answer your question, because it has been over 58 years since I had a 52 Ford. Looking at the Chassis parts catalog, the location of the valve seems correct. It looks like there is just a vacuum connection to the valve. Try running a vacuum hose directly to the valve to see if it will shut off the water supply. You can use your vacuum gauge to determine if the dash control is varying the vacuum to the valve. Tom
