Is there any advantage to using the "straight" water pumps rather than the "tapered" kind that originally came on a 1937 Ford V8-60 engine? I know that the compatible front timing gear cover will have to be obtained to use the straight pumps. Are new and/or rebuilts available for both kinds of water pumps?

I don't believe you can get new pumps for a V-8 60.You might find som NOS pumps and there are rebuilt pumps available.

The only source we found for 60hp water pumps is Little Dearborn (888/282-2066). The earlier, tapered type had leakage problems, so it you are planning to convert, the later style would be preferable. I don't know where you would locate the front mounting plate if that is required.
