Topic: Trailer Hitch for '42 Sedan

We are considering getting a small period tear-drop trailer to tow behind our '42 Sedan. The trailer is single axle, about 800 lbs, with a 1 7/8 ball socket.

What would be involved in installing an appropriate hitch? and what would that do to the originality of the car?

Put "trailer hitches" into your browser search. That will give you many sources of appropriate hardware and installers. While your trailer is not large, one of the main considerations is the tongue weight. Most hitches for passenger cars handle only light loading without the attachments which transfer weight forward on the vehicle. This allows the car to maintain the correct level, and help keep the trailer from "wagging the dog". Any towing vehicle must have safe steering and brakes, of course. Towing any trailer with an old car presents challenges and is generally discouraged. As to effect on value, it is likely that it will not enhance it, in my opinion.
