My original Radiator no longer stays cool at 50 MPH. It's all stock 221 ci 85 HP flathead V8 Fordor. All I see are ones with transmission coolers, which 34's didn't have. Does anyone make a bolt in version in aluminum? I has to have a filler neck on top for my Greyhound and steady rod brackets built in. Any suggestions? 1934 Ford's since 1972

If you are having problems with overheating at 50 mph, I suggest that you have your distributer checked for correct dwell. It is likely that the timing has changed. It could also mean that your radiator needs a good cleaning. Be aware that an aluminum radiator will not cool as well as a new core in your original radiator. Tom

Your best course of action is to have the original radiator rebuilt and have a new core installed. If you want to raise the boiling point of the coolant, you can use a pressurized radiator cap. You don't want to overdue the pressure on the cooling system of a 1934 Ford due to the large upper radiator tank which can flex and cause leaks. You should be O.K. to run pressures of 5 PSI or less. Each 1 PSI of pressure will increase the boiling point of the coolant by 3 degrees F. During the summer months or year round if you live in an area where the ambient temperature does not drop below 32 degrees F (freezing point of water), you can just use distilled water with a pint of rust inhibitor/water pump lubricant. Water is the best dispersant of heat available.
