Head bolts? I'm guessing you mean hex nuts, correct? Yes, washers are correct and necessary. Mike Drsikell has the correct washers. Mike "Kube" Kubarth

Thanks Kube, would you know what length the studs should be? On the engine I am restoring the hex nuts tighten down flush with the stud top. If I add a washer then the stud top is recessed in the nut. Were the hex nuts the same size ac the Model A nuts? Thanks, the V8 venders do not list any spec sizes in the catalogs.

I think the person who rebuilt the engine years ago just scr*w*d the studs in tight and not just enough to be flush with the top of the nut and washer. Nek tibe I pull the heads I will back the studs out a little.

The correct studs can be purchased from Mike Driskell and may be worth the cost. The studs have an interference fit unless someone rethreaded the block incorrectly. The correct washers are rather this, much thinner than a hardware store washer. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
