I'm disassmbling a 41/42 Ford flathead. I'm having a tough time with the oil pump. Everyone says it should just pull out. I've removed the cam timing gear cover and the oil pump drive gear. I can see the gear at the base of the pump and that turns freely. Is there any snap rings or pins I'm overlooking? The bolt is removed that holds the pump to the block. The pump is not moving at all. Any suggestions? as always your help is always appreciated. Zeke

They can be a bugger to get out especially if the engine did not get regular oil changes. Try spraying a good penatrating oil from the top down. Use a pipe wrench on the main body and try GENTLY twisting it slightly back and forth. That one bolt on the bottom is the only thing that holds them to the block, no clips or pins. Often dirt, sand, grit , metal particles and other junk gets between the pump and block. Go easy it may take some time and repeated soaking in oil.

Thanks for the tips. I'll get some penetrating oil on it first thing in the morning. I'll continue to oil it down for a couple of days before using the pipe wrench. The motor has been sitting for sometime and the valley is pretty well gonked up. The motor turns freely and all valves are working. Zeke

As you suggested, penetrating oil and patience was the trick. The only thing holding it was a bunch of oil muck. Thanks again. Zero
