Hello All, I have a 1940 Fordor standard. As you probably know, it has only one taillight. I know this will rub the purists the wrong way, but I'm reluctantly planning to add two tail/brake/directional lights to the back; basically adding trailer lights - easy to find these, and easy to swap the 1157 bulbs to the 1154 6V bulbs. However, I'm finding it difficult to find appropriate directional signal lights for the front. I've looked online, Auto Zone, Harbor Freight, TSC, NAPA, etc. Ideally, I'm looking for round or rectangular amber lights that contain the larger socket light bulbs - 1157, 1154. I need to use incandescent 6VDC bulbs to operator the directional flasher. Most everything I find is LED. A larger socket single-filament bulb is OK, too, as I'm planning to use these front lights for directional lights only. Any ideas, suggestions appreciated. If someone has what I'm looking for, I'll be glad to buy them from you. Regards, Barney

Your 40 has two parking lights on the front in the headlight doors. Convert them to turn signals. I use the 41 Ford pickup lenses (known as frog eyes) so they can be seen easier (available through your vendor of old Ford parts). Then run your turn signal switch wires and connect into the parking light wires. It will eliminate your parking lights but nobody uses them anyway.

Hi Trjford8, I investigated that option, but thought I'd need the larger bulbs (more resistance to run the flasher). Admittedly, I didn't perform any electrical calculations. There's not room to install the larger bulbs in that parking light cavity. I could perform an off-vehicle 'test run' with the smaller bulbs. Thanks for prompting me to revisit this area. Appreciate it, Barney

Barney I believe the flashers available today are usually the electronic type. Not current-dependent, they flash regardless of the bulb quantity or bulb size.

Consider period fog lights wired for directional lights. They look correct for 1940 and bulbs are available in 6v or 12v and in clear and amber lenses. This message was edited by 40cpe on 10-19-25 @ 5:12 PM

40 coupe gives you a good alternative using fog lights. I did that on my 37 coupe and they worked well.
