how to add oil to the rear end of a 1948 ford Columbia Rear End, also there is one nut located at the very bottom of the Columbia which is attached to the main gear box leaking very little. Can I remove that nut and add gasket sealer to it or can I add a "o" ring to the nut. which is better ?

In my opinion, drain the old gear oil out through the bottom and clean the drain plug hole and plug and then adding gasket sealer to the threads, tightening it up and then adding a sealer to the outside of the plug threads. Then add gear oil (not the so called 600W black stuff) through the top plug of the Columbia using an oil pump style of oil can.
