Topic: Oil for distributor and generator fill ports.

So, I'm a little embarrassed. I just found out there are oil ports on the distributor and generator on my 1961 8BA flathead. The manual says to use engine oil but I'm wondering if Marvel Mystery oil is better. The manual says revery 1000 miles, is that correct?

Use motor oil as specified. One or two drops at most.

Any good oil will do. Even in an extreme situation as I once had, my generator would suddenly cry out loud ‘till I put a few drops of oil in that port, then good for another 50 miles or so. The distributor won’t make noise like that, but do it anyway, just a drop will do you.

And in a desperate situation, you can use the tip of your oil stick to drip a drop or two into the cups.

When I restore a generator, I use straught 30 wt on the bushing. Don't over oil it. Too much oil works its way onto the commutator.
