Hello I have been using ethanol fuel in my car and do not drive it that often i do ad stabil to the gas. Starting to have problems with the car idling and responding I checked the fuel filter before the carburetor and it had some grayish gummy matter in it the filter is 40 micron filter has anyone had issues like this and what is causing this grayish matter in the filter thanks John

I think most of us use regular pump gas, and in most locations now that is 10% ethanol. I've never had a problem. But that may be because I got lucky, there is nothing left on my car that can be attacked by the ethanol. Rubber parts have been made to withstand ethanol for probably fifty years now. Maybe you have something like a rubber flex hose, or gas tank coating, that may be deteriorating. But then, is it due to the ethanol or old age?

Pump gas seems to work OK in cars that are driven regularly. If your car sees only occasional use try using non-ethynol Rec- fuel to avoid problems. Some of the early gas tank sealers did not work well with E-10.
