Well got the 39' running this weekend and the wife and I started out in the neighborhood for a bit , then a short road trip to town. Made a stop to fill it up and a 1/2 mile down the road she died. Found the fuel filter not full and the fuel pump not pulling up fuel from the tank. Luckily I was across the street from a buddies house and we pushed it into his driveway and caught a ride home and returned with a 12vdc rattle pump from my mower and its battery, a length of fuel hose and clamps and some jumper wiring and switch. Tied in the pump, ran the wiring through the window and hooked it up to the battery on the rear floor board and back on the road!!! We shot around town all day long, had a blast. Going to get a rebuild kit for the factory fuel pump and ordered a 6vdc pump for backup anytime I may need it. I may have lost this car to my wife though....She is absolutely in love with this piece of nostalgia. 1939 Ford Deluxe, all original , 85 hp , new to me 7/2025. NEWBY!!!

Good on you. Some of us have an electric in line 6 v pump to prime with or, as in your case get home on in case the mechanical pump fails. Today's fuel will boil on a warm flathead after sitting requiring "a little help" fill the float bowl. Mike

It is possible the flexible fuel line from the firewall to the input to the fuel pump is bad and blocking fuel to the pump.

It is good to carry an aerosol can of starting fluid in the car at all times. Most of the time if your engine refuses to start, you can get it to run with the starting fluid. If you can't get the engine to at least try to start with the fluid, suspect ignition system problems.
