How long should this part be in a '36 Pickup? Anyone know? 7/12 "the part" being the grease retainer tube referenced in the topic. In case there is any confusion. At the bottom of the steering gear box there is a diamond shaped ('36) flange. There is a hole on top of the diamond and a hole at the bottom of the diamond for the cap screws to secure it and the light switch bracket to the gear box. One each side is an ear for the bale that snaps the light switch body to the bracket. A thin brass tube is fastened to the flange which slides up the steering shaft above the lube level in the gear box.. Thus retaining the lube in the gear box. The light switch and horn rod from the steering wheel travels down the steering shaft, through the brass tube into the light switch body. I am looking for the specified length of this tube. In the big green Chassis bool it appears to be part no. 40-3597 plate and tube assy. '33-'36 Pass,Com I hope that is the is clearer. Any info may be helpful. thanks, Brad This message was edited by MrHenderson on 7-15-25 @ 5:44 AM

The length is not critical unless too short. Make it long enough to extend up to the clamp for the outer column to the box. This should make it slightly longer than an original.
