Good afternoon This question is in reference to an all original 1938 Fordor Deluxe. My emergency brake works very well when the handle is operated. When I pull the handle, I see that the brake pedal is also moving down, as if being depressed with my foot. I found out the hard way at a car show the problem with this is the brake lights are now illuminated and ended up with a dead battery. My question is, is this how the E-brake was originally designed to work?

Your brake pedal return spring is broken or missing...

Thanks MG, that makes perfect sense. Is the brake return spring available as a reproduction?

Check with the V-8 vendors on the return spring. Check the links page in the left column of this site and it will show vendors. This message was edited by trjford8 on 1-30-25 @ 10:18 AM
