Are washers necessary under the cast iron head bolt nuts? Do you need special washers or are locally sourced ok? Also i see special washers for the exhaust manifold. Are these needed? Thanks

My understanding is that the hardened washers were not used with cast iron heads. Locally sourced washers would probably not have adequate hardness for this application. The club’s 1937 Ford book says that the exhaust manifolds were attached to the engine block with bolts and lock washers.

NO washers on cast iron heads. Special washers for the exhaust manifolds? Not really. S2 finish thick split type lock washers. That's it. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
