Attached is a photo of a strange bell housing and I hope someone can identify it. It appears that it will accept an early Ford V-8 transmission. I suspect it may be for a tractor or another type commercial vehicle. I cannot find a part number on it.

Hello TRJ. Happy new year. All the best to you and yours. Could that oddball bell housing possibly belong to one of those wartime 119.5 c.i. four cylinder powerplants which Ford Motor Company introduced in late 1940 for use in their 1941 commercial vehicle models? The photo below is an illustration in one of our Petersen reference books. It apparently came from what is described as "a Ford 4 cyl. factory service manual dated 1947". The starter on this non-tractor engine looks like it could be in the correct position to match up with your housing.

Grant, Happy New Year to you too. I think you may be on to something. When I first got this thing(a friend gave it to me). I had the feeling it might be an industrial part. The friend got it with some other parts and he had no idea what it might fit. I thought it might be something from a Ford tractor or maybe coupled to a motor that ran a big generator. I've checked it closely and unfortunately I cannot find a part number on it.
