Topic: 39 Ford Tudor headliner install

Showtime    -- 04-27-2024 @ 12:07 PM
  New to this family.
I am installing a headliner in my 39 Ford Tudor and was looking for any tips on how to wrap the headliner around the tack strips above the doors?
I'm thinking all the bows can be installed as I am thinking you need to work the headliner around these strips as you work back toward the rear.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I assume you realize the windlace must be installed around the doors before the liner is installed. Yes?
Once the lace has been installed, the strips are scr*w*d above the door to the roof flange.

The strips above the doors have a "pocket" of sorts and are flanked by teeth". Look closely and you'll see them.
One of the last things you do is tuck the liner into the "pocket". I used a stiff blade putty knife that has been rounded at the edge and masking tape, about for layers applied over the edge.
Work the liner into the "pocket" with the aforementioned blade and a hammer.
You will need to figure out how much excess liner you'll need to cut off prior to installing it in the strips. I leave about 1 1/2".

Once the liner is tucked in the strip(s) take a rubber mallet covered with a clean cloth and pound the "pocket" closed the entire length of the strip..

Thanks for the tip. Windlace is in.
Did not think to use a putty knife to shove the material in after all the bows are attached.
Thanks again, will tell you how I make out.
