Topic: New '33

New to me is an older restoration '33 Tudor that I bought a couple months ago. As best I can determine it's about 100% original.

As with most things in life it has a couple issues. First, the fuel gauge tube is coiled up under the dash. Can the tube be run back to the gas tank and be reconnected? If this won't fix the problem what are the options?

Second, I tried to replace the speedo cable. After removing the "cap" on the outer part of the cable I can't pull the cable out of the speedo. Do I need to remove the speedo from the dash? Haven't dealt with the transmission connection yet.

Also I plan to install turn signals and seat belts. Any suggestions on good repair books/manuals?

Thanx in advance.

You can try reconnecting the fuel gauge tube back to the sending unit on top of the fuel tank. There should be a cover in the floor that exposes the sending unit. The sending unit may have been replaced if the gas tank is new.
The speedo cable will come out one way only. The cable connects to the rear of the speedo with a thumb nut, If the cable is broken make sure the speedo turns since after years the oil in the drive will dry and sieze the speedo. The drive on the speedo end is square and the cable end should come out with the thumb nut removed.

In order to fix the fuel gauge you will also need the correct red fluid to put in the line.
