Topic: Oil pan leak

I purchased a '48 short block with the oil pan installed. Recently put it in the car and ran it some. Noticed an oil leak and figured out that it was coming from the oil pan drain plug. What was happing was the drain plug was bottoming out. Couldn't make it tighten as it was hitting something in the bottom of the pan. As I looked at it through the drain hole, it was a flat piece of metal, couldn't move it up or down it was solid. Haven't pulled the pan to see what was going on and I'm not that familiar with the flat head yet thought someone know what it might be. The drain plug is a stock plug, nothing special.

Thanks, Ed

You can try using multiple gaskets (or washers) under the drain plug to get it to tighten up enough to seal the leak.
