I have never had a key to my spare tire lock but did order key blanks thinking a local locksmith could figure how to cut it. Very reputable locksmith but says he is unable to figure it out. I understand there might be a code on the cylinder. Looking for how to remove said cylinder and ultimately get a key. All help much appreciated.

You have to remove the headless bolt at the rear of the cylinder ( many grind a screwdriver slot in the head) and take the brass cap off, then the three locking fingers can be removed. There is a special screw on the side of the cylinder through the casting which also has to be removed. Then the cylinder can be pushed out of the hole. In most cases there is NOT a key code on the lock cylinder or the brass cap that was removed, but do look carefully. Originally the glove box lock cylinder (if you have one) and the spare tire lock were keyed alike. Send the lock cylinder and foot ball shaped key blank and glove box key (if you want the cylinders to match) to one of the lock experts on fordbarn.com. Either John or Phil. The first step in removing the cylinder from the spare tire lock would be to locate the retaining screws or bolts. These are usually located on the side or bottom of the lock, and may require a special tool to access. Once the retaining screws or bolts have been removed, the cylinder should be able to be pulled out of the lock body. If the cylinder does have a code stamped on it, a locksmith may be able to use this information to create a key.
