I noticed a hole in the bendix spring cover. It looks like a small rod poking out from the inside. The end of the rod is shaped like a grease fitting. Any thoughts on what it could be? Also, how does the cover come off? Thanks for your help

The cup shaped, stamped steel cover on the oil pan, over the bendix was not made the be removed,But I have seen replacements but not very often. There is no lube fitting and the cover should be without any holes. If your looking at the bottom of the oil pan that covers the flywheel there is a small hole for any oil that collects in the cover to drain and it has a very large cotter pin inserted so that dirt can not block the hole. The 36 oil pan cover over the flywheel also has a stamped steel plug inserted into another hole.

Thanks for your help Coupe. The piece sticking through the cover resembles a grease fitting (in shape) Any idea what part of the bendix assembly this could be.?

As mentioned there is no grease fitting on the Bendix cover so purpose is unknown. The Bendix should NOT be greased and there is nothing else in the area
