I have spent several hours today on this project. My hold up is getting the drive shaft engaged in the u-joint. I have the body raised 3-4 feet but the end of the drive shaft remains too high in relation to the joint. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you able to push down on the front of the driveshaft to get it to line up with the U-Joint on the back of the transmission? One way to accomplish this is by placing a 2 by 4 above it and using a wooden wedge between the 2 by 4 and the top of the driveshaft. This will require two people to accomplish, one to push the rear axle toward the front of the car while the other person guides the shaft into the U-Joint.

The best way that I have found to match the u-joint to the drive shaft is to use a floor jack with a cup and raise the rear end pumpkin with the jack and pull on the drive shaft. The rear end should roll forward and with the rear end raised (not so far as the spring will not fit under the rear cross member) it is easy enough that I have been able to line it up by myself. Once the drive shaft is close, I rotate one of the rear hubs to assist with lining up the splines.
