what are the torque settings for early V8 rear ends. Most bolts are 3/8" ?

I'm not aware of any specified torque specification for those bolts from Ford.
Typically, a soft 3/8 bolt gets torqued to approximately 20 ft/lbs.
Be aware that these bolts are taper fit. DO NOT tap the threaded holes.

36 road, you’ll need to be more specific in your request. “Most” bolts?
Mike is referring to the axle housing to banjo bolts as being taper fit, to prevent oil seepage. I’ve heard them referred to as interference fit, but we’re talking about the same thing. Do not clean up those threads with anything more aggressive than a wire brush, and use non-hardening thread sealant on final assembly.

  Mike is right, for a 3/8" -24 thread Grade 1 or 2 bolt use 20 Ft/Lb.
For a Grade 5 bolt of the same size use 35 Ft/lb.
The bolts you are referring to have part #24329-S8.

I am not sure of the Grade number for these bolts. If they have plain, smooth top surfaces they are grade 1 or 2. If they have a top surface with 3 radial lines, they are Grade 5 bolts.

carcrazy, if he's using the original bolts they have no markings on them.

  They are soft bolts.
