Topic: 3 brush generator '37 motor how to adjust

I have a good 3 brush generator on my '37 flathead. It runs in the middle of the amp meter while going down the road. How do I adjust the brush to give it a little more amps so when I put my brakes on or use head lights it won't discharge?

The charging rate adjustment for the third brush control type of generator follows:

1. Remove commutator cover band.
2. Shift third brush by hand, counter-clockwise to increase output, or clockwise to decrease output.
3. Set charging rate as low as possible to keep battery fully charged.
4. Note that the generator will not charge at idle speed.
5. Once you are satisfied with the charging setting, replace the commutator cover band.

I changed over to a 6 volt alternator. Looks like the old generator.

That may turn out to be a wise move as your electrical system will be capable of keeping your battery charged at idle.

Thank you, that's good to know.
