Topic: 37 Fordoor brakes

I’m anxiously awaiting the chassis repair manual I bought and my curiosity is killing me. Do the brake drums have to be removed to adjust the brakes? This manual shows the adjustment with the drums off. I just bought the car, brakes supposedly new but DO NOT stop the car. Thanks.

No, unless you need to see the condition of the brakes.

Dean, odds are that they were assembled incorrectly by the previous owner. The 37-38 brakes are like no other, you’ll need to confirm condition and correct assembly before wasting your time trying to adjust incorrect brakes. You’re going to need a special drum puller also, one that you won’t find at any auto supply. Don’t try using your friend’s puller that he says works great, unless it is a KRW type Early Ford ‘32-‘48 puller. There are used ones available if you’re lucky, but only one manufacturer makes one today, I don’t remember the name.

  Tim,

If you need a puller, I have the correct one.

I didn’t say anything about needing a puller or mentioning a friend who has one. There’s another post that asks that. I have the correct puller I bought years ago.

If you need/want some pics of the brake drum assembly pieces, I have several. Also have pics of the entire braking system.
