  I have done this repair on a couple of Ford cars: a 1940 Deluxe and a 1953 Courier. It is an easy repair. The repair kits are available from multiple vendors. Be sure to keep the shift arms lined up when the lever is in the neutral position before you reinstall the cotter pins.

  I'm assuming you are asking about worn parts up at the shift lever. Have you checked the linkage that connects the shift column to the transmission? The shifter on my '46 Coupe was sloppy, and I found the rubber bushings at each end of the two shift rods that connect the shift column arms to the transmission arms were very worn. Also, the arms that are pinned to the shift rods were loose and had to be re-riveted. I also changed the shift shaft seals while I had it a part

  If you are planning to replace the oil seals in the side cover of the transmission, you should know these seals are easy to damage when you slip them over the shafts. Many years ago I learned an easy way to protect then. Put paper around the shafts and leave a bit on the outer ends so you can remove the paper when the cover in in place.
