Prior to 36 the springs did not have a lubrication fitting and the spring leafs did not have the channel in the center for lubrication from a Zerk fitting. Best to lube them when they are apart before final assembly.

if you can find GRAPHITE SPRAY, this might be the way to go,
a few applications should lube the springs,
you can also when you put the car up for the winter, wrap the spring with rags and soak with oil ?
hope this helps 37Ragtopman

Model A'S had covers with a felt liner that you soaked with oil,.maybe up to 1936 had spring covers,?
1937 and up had the spring center bolt with a grease fitting,
most replacement springs do not have a grease fitting's ,in the center bolt

There are Spring liner materials available at C&G (800-266-0470). It comes in two sizes for 1 3/4 and for 2" springs. The installation is not easy, and unless you know how to remove and disassemble springs, it can be a big and potentially dangerous job. Usually one or two spring leaves must be removed to accommodate the thickness of the liner, Often old springs with develop"pockets" where they wear from contact with the next leaf. This forces the springs to bind as they are flex, producing lots of noise. Those pockets must be ground smooth before reassembly. Trying to lubricate an assembled spring seldom cures noise, but make a mess that will attract road dirt. Ford used spring "covers" on some models, but discontinued when they caused other problems.

According to the 41 to 48 Ford book spring covers were to be used through 48. However due to material shortages after the war not all cars got them. Ford instructed dealers that they would be furnished for installation when available especially if a customer asked for them. So some 46-48 cars may have them and some may not.

My 42 has the original front spring with a cover and a replacement rear spring without one.

Snyder's Antique Auto has spring covers available for the Model A's. I'm sure they'll work on yours. FWIW
