Spring loaded? If you had to force it in place to install, something was (is) bent... bumper iron(s) bar?
Simply remove the bolts from the bar to the irons...

While original bumpers are a bit tempered, they are far cry from being "spring loaded", as Mike indicates. If you are concerned, unfasten the bolts on the ends first which should relieve any tension caused by bent brackets and/or the bumper itself.

I think the 34 Bumpers were spring steel. The repro's get bent if you back into a pole, the real ones were spring steeland don't bemd. The 1933 and 1934 bumpers were not identiacal and it had to do with the distance between the inboasrd holes in the bumpers. The brackets for the 33 were different too, causing the holes to be closer together

1934 Ford's since 1972

Regardless of the composition, they are not under stress when installed. Unless of course there's a misalignment issue.
