What does your owner's manual (Reference Book) say?

It doesn't tell you that- If it did why would I bother to go on the forum and ask?

Every book I have (about 5) including the Ford Manual, tells every thing about a tune up-dwell, point gap, spark plug gap and torque, timing, adjustment of the two idle mixture screws; EVERTHING BUT IDLE SPEED!!!

I found the idle speed, it! It was under Vacuum Advance in my "1949,50,51 Ford Manual" on page 269, where it talks about checking manifold vacuum, and adjusting the carburator!! It is 475-500 RPM'S. That's crazy! Why isn't it with the tune up specs in the back of the book?? Who knows!

It is under "Adjust idle speed" Under major topic "Carburetor operation, tests and adjustments" and under major topic "Engine tune up." Most shop manuals have it listed only under those topics.
