Topic: HOOD WONT OPEN FIX

I got my hood open!! And what a job that was!!

I had to remove the entire center section of the grill ,and both parking lights to get at the latch tab, and loop a HEAVY CORD around that tab, (that the wire attaches to, with that little ferrule on the end of it.)

I forewarn anyone, you can't get your hand in on the driver side to put that loop on the "Tab;" YOU HAVE TO DO IT FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE!; AND THAT'S TOUGH , BUT THAT'S WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO!! For some unknown reason, the space on the driver side to get your hand in, is SMALLER!; and I have small "Girl like " hands!! If anyone ever needs help with this process; Private message me- W/your phone #. I''ve written complete instructions on paper for my "How To" notebook!!

Regards, Steve Lee

I'll bet that you never forget to lubricate the latch every oil change, from now on.

That latch always has heavy wheel bearing grease on it, and the conduit that the release wire runs through, is lubricated. That wasn't the problem; The problem was that latch was too tight. I never had a problem with it since I bought the car about 4 years ago. Those latches are supposed to have a scant 1/8th inch of free play if the hood is latched; I.E.,when the hood is closed and latched, you should be able to push down on it and it should move down about that scant 1/8th inch against the spring tension, and when you let up on it, it will come up that scant 1/8th inch. If that is not adjusted that way, one has to pull too hard to unlatch it, and the cable breaks!! The custom I sold was adjusted that way, and I opened that hood about 100 times over the 10 yrs. I had it, and never a problem with it! This one apparently, was a "little" tight .

  I like https://www.homedepot.com/p/Super-Lube-3-oz-Tube-Synthetic-Grease-with-Syncolon-PTFE-21030/202932687?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US

Ford recommended the stainless wax stick.
