First: thanks to all that responded to my first questions . The tutorial by Mr. Endy was especially helpful. Now I am installing the pinion. When I took the new bearing set out of the box there was a spacer between the two bearings. I installed them the same way. I can not get any torque ( 20 " lbs ), on pinion, plus there is end play on pinion. I removed the spacer and now can lock the pinion with little effort. I feel the spacer needs to be machined down. I purpose to put a piece of split shot in place of spacer ,get my 20 " lbs torque, then remove the split shot and measure to tell me what needs to be removed from spacer. Does this seem right? If I am right ,why did n't the bearing manufacturer supply a shim pack instead of a solid spacer?
