Topic: 1936 Factory Thermostat Locations

30+ years ago someone took out the two factory bi-metal thermostats from my car before it was put in storage. Fast forward to the car being moved out of storage two years ago and my recent purchase, I located both factory thermostat's inside a box in the trunk. I am going to first test both to see if they are working properly over the stove top, monitoring the temperatures as to when the gate opens. I took off the old radiator hoses still on the car today to see if there were thermostats inside the upper quadrants, none present!

I have a question please: Where do the factory thermostat's sit in a 1936 year car? How are they secured? I have no examples to go by, nor a picture.

From my research, there are many schools of thought about using thermostat's on these old flatheads. I want to know for historical/research purposes their proper location in the car.

Thanks,

The stats fit inside the upper hoses. They're usually a snug fit and won't move but they can be held in place with external hose clamps. I recommend you install 180° thermostats...
