Topic: Gold Ford oval on battery

Is a gold oval correct for a 1938 DeLuxe battery ? I’m not clear as to when the gold oval would appear. Thank you

The gold oval indicated a 51 plate 100 amp hour battery. I believe that it was supplied as standard with most new V-8 fords.
A green oval indicated a 45 plate 90 amp hour battery.

Any thoughts on how to achieve the gold color ? I’ve experimented with several paints and the rubber (Optima) casing doesn’t really accept them. Maybe best to move on from this ?

I use Testor's model paint. Clean the case with pre-cleaner for paint and go at it. Works very well and lasts for years.

I second Kube's choice of paint, and will add that a small foam roller works very well, with no masking required at all, as the surface to be painted is prominent on the battery. The job will be done before you down a long neck (beer).

PS~ My info about the surface being prominent pertains to the 2LF battery, the correct one for your '38. I'm not certain about other batteries.
