I recently acquired this and am beginning to work on “the list”, despite its excellent overall condition. The clock needs to be serviced; is there a specialist I should use ? Cigar lighter assembly is missing entirely, although I have what appears to be the correct knob. Is there an NOS source for the correct lighter assembly ? Finally, spark plug leads; should these be color-coded cloth or black cloth covered ? Thank you

For your clock try Bob's Speedometer (www.bobsspeedometer.com). Do not send your clock to Smith's Clock Repair in Colorado. Lots of negative posts regarding that service. Check with Michael Driskell at Third Gen Automotive for the cigar lighter, ph# 844-327-5988. Ignition wires are color coded. Since you are a new owner of the very nice '38 woody I would recommend you purchase the V-8 Club's 38-39 book. It will answer many of your questions. It can be purchased on the front page of this website. The answer to your spark plug wire question is on page 4-19 of the book. Welcome to the Early Ford V-8 Club of America website.

Very nice '38 Woodie!! Additional pictures are always appreciated on this forum. Also, do you have the "back story" on the car with specifics on where the came from and the name on the door? History on these old Ford wagons and their service on estates always make for an interesting story and could be of interest to the editor of "The V8 Times" for a future article. Thanks, 39 Ken

The previous owner, Frederik Eaton of Ontario, Canada, acquired the car in 2005; the name seen on the door in the prior picture, Highwatch, is the name of the family estate in Caledon, ON. I am fortunate to have received extensive records and can share whatever may be helpful; there are extensive photos. One question I have is whether the rear window frame should be black or finished in the body color; chapter 2 of the 38-39 Ford book is not explicit on this relative to wagons, but implies that body color is correct. Much obliged !

I should add that this vehicle’s “estate service” was light, amounting to just 500 miles in 15 years.

Jacques, I have been searching for an answer to your rear window frame color and can't find an answer anywhere. Perhaps an answer can be found in the 1938 Ford book offered by the V-8 Club. If I had to guess however and it's purely a guess, I would think that it would be a neutral color. On the '41 thru '48 wagons the color for all the trim is what is known as "Woodie" brown or "Woodie" 1K. I'm trying to think of Fords manufacturing process and it would make sense that all window frames would be painted before the glass was installed so body color would be too much to try to sort out. That being said, I would tend to think it would be black or a shade of brown.
