My 49 has a turn signal switch in it but it doesn’t work. It doesn’t have a fuse or anything and the wiring is very hokey. I’m thinking of getting a new unit. But I’m currently running 6v system and planning on going to 12v. Can I use a 12v switch on the 6v system until I switch over?

Yes, you can use a 12V turn signal system with 6 V. You will have to use a 6V bulb for the turn signal indicator and a 6V flasher unit.

I don't know what you mean by saying your turn signal wiring is "hokey", but I would determine why the signals do not work and if there are parts to repair it before investing in a new switch that may not fix your problem. Tom

I don't know what your level of expertise is, but a good auto electrican can take an ohm meter and figure out where each wire goes.
