Topic: Squeaking rear spring shackles

Rear leaf shackles are squeaking and squacking, GB states that no lubrication is required. Just what can I use without damaging shackle rubbers? Thank you!

Use some silicone spray on them.

Garage door lubricant. Garage Door Lubricant is a silicone-based lubricant that leaves a tack-free film that won't accumulate dust and dirt. Stop squeaks.

What is GB?? There are a couple of different shackles what type do you have? Metal shield one piece original style or the plastic style two piece inserts?

GB is the Green Bible and the springs/shackles are original, sounds like a chirping bird. Gonna give the silicone spray a go, thanks for the replies.

I think that line is pretty funny. I might even use it some day. But not in print! I agree with you, its inappropriate here. Sophomorish. Like the big plastic testicals I sometimes see hanging below the back of pickup trucks. Chuckled a bit first time I saw that, but most of us stopped doing stuff like that when we got out of high school.

Have a similar problem with a car i recently bought..... an older restoration. Plan to remove the springs but wanted a temporary remedy. I used Kroil penetrating lubricant and have reduced the spring, shackle, and shock link squeaking until i can disassemble and lube properly.

The original style shackles should not make noise unless they need to be replaced. Between the center steel pin and the outer steel jacket is layer of special insulation. If the insulation is worn through the two steel parts can touch causing noise.
