I am working on my 1947 Ford with the flathead V8. I have reproduction hoses and reproduction hose clamps. They leak at the head and going in to the water pump. Does anyone use some type of sealant on them? Was this a normal problem with those Flatheads. I have worked on many '60's cars and never used any sealant. Just tighten the factory clamps and never had any leaks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I installed Drake hoses top and bottom on my "46 Coupe, 59A. The hoses were not the problem, it was the poor quality repro hose clamps, that deformed before getting tight. I managed to find a set of original clamps, and all is good. I didn't have to use any sealant.

If you feel the need to use sealant, I'd suggest you use Indian Head Sh*llac. Napa, about $3. This stuff has been around for many decades and has been used on rubber quite effectively. Follow the directions. I use it at each and every connection during my restorations as I can't take a chance at any leaks. Mike "Kube" Kubarth This message was edited by kubes40 on 7-1-20 @ 4:43 PM
