I have been looking to change the wheels on my new '37 hotrod to something that is not too radical and will accept the '40-48 caps. Check out wheelvintiques.com. I saw a few of their offerings (Series 13,15,21) that say will accept those original hub caps.

Original 5 1/2 in Ford wheels from late 40s Mercury and really wide ones from Lincoln were what rodders used in the past.

I understand Ford pick ups used the "innie" hubcap mounting nubs into the '60s and had the 5 on 5.5" lug pattern.

Ford pickup wheels up to 1965 used the early style hub caps. Use the original Ford wheels if you can and use the 5" wide ones.
