I converted my 48 sedan to 12 volts couple years ago and it still has the old 6 volt ground cable (web type), can I use 1 or 2 gauge newer cable for ground, also I have one of those green knob battery disconnects, does it matter if it goes on pos of neg battery post. Johna

JohnA. The old “braided” cable I good for 12 volt use, unless it is in poor condition. The “green knob” isolator goes on the negative post.

yes, old braided cable clamp end is in bad shape, won"t tighten up.

The battery disconnect should always be installed on the grounded side of the battery. Tom

Tom I'm curious about the theory behind this. Why is it better to use the grounded side?

Jay, it is just a safety precaution. when you are disconnecting or connecting on the supply side and your wrench touches a ground, you will have lots of sparks. Also the frame and engine are a single source for ground, if something contacts a supply side connector, it cannot complete a circuit. Tom

All of the green knob types of disconnector switches that I have seen are made to fit on the negative battery posts. Does anyone know of any which fit on the positive posts?
